AutoImmune Summit: Notes from Doctor Gottfried on Hormones and the Immune System

Weeks ago we took part in watching the AutoImmune Summit hosted by Dr. Amy Myers. This summit is still available for purchase to those who may be interested. As a precursor, I am no doctor, and this series of blog posts is coming from the PAGES and pages of notes that we took during the summit. We just wanted to share the important tidbits we took away from the summit with people who may have missed out!
*Dr. Gottfried is a Harvard grad, gynecologist, mom, and hormone expert. She’s also the author of the Hormone Cure. She also wrote the fabulous Hormone Reset Diet!
*hormones signal your brain much like a text message, and act as a chemical messenger
*3 to 1 ratio of women to men, and who has more autoimmune issues; women have more immune reactivity.
*Any type of hormone fluctuation can trigger imbalance: pregnancy, stress, being overweight, or having a preexisting hormone condition.
*many tests needed for estrogen metabolism testing is not yet covered by insurance
*progesterone creams: most work well; transdermal progesterone the results are still out, as all bodies are different
*Copper IUD is best method of prevention, but used only 2% of the time, due to one bad IUD that ruined it
*Males: low T between 40-70 years
*To Do: yoga, brain activities, biofeedback, vitamins with omega-3s
*To Try: fill nutritional gaps, and try bioidentical hormones only (limited), aim for 1 pound of veggies per day!
