Justice for Nancy: Your Legacy. And a Pretty Big Food Drive.
~

Dear Grandma,

I hope you’re proud of the choices I’ve made, and things I have planned. I picture you sheepishly smiling, semi-embarrassed; but thrilled that so many people are going to be helped, encouraged, and honored in your name. I hope that you can see that the things you wished for your friends, family, and the world to do- to give- I have heard. So many have heard. Your wishes of acceptance, understanding and love I strive for each and every day.

Just moments ago, I made a few shifts on the page we all use to tell you about. Justice for Nancy is going to be a powerful, charitable group by the time I’m done with it. Just as I promised, you’d be giving to many as long as I could do it. Once a year we’ll host a charitable event in your name, your amazing memory. Every year I hope to make it different from the last. This year we went with our local food bank. When I first started, I’d figured the family and a few friends would post a few bins, and snag a few donations. I had no idea that in the first weeks of planning, we’d have multiple businesses, people we’ve never met, and news stations involved in spreading the word on this. The amazing people at Heritage (your favorite Sean, included…) are helping so much with all of this, and I am grateful for them, and everyone else helping out.

The horrible tragedy that happened to you will never be forgotten, and I’ll never silence about the pathetic waste that did this to you. I also promised you that your story would be heard. Always. It’s time we all focus on turning this into something positive. It’s time we all act more like you, and be as good as we can be in the life. To ourselves. To our families and friends. To strangers and to one another. I get it. I still hear you.
-Me.

PS. Tiny has a new “red pop” addiction. And the kids really want me to paint a sign for the bathroom that reads: “If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie.”
